We exist to lead people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus.
Knowing Jesus changes how we give, go, love, and forgive.

Meet Our Pastors
Pastors Brandon & Kelly Bohannon
Pastors Brandon and Kelly Bohannon serve The WORD, with Brandon as Lead Pastor. Together they are passionate about helping people experience the life-changing power of Jesus. Known for his relatable teaching, energetic leadership, and genuine love for people, Pastor Brandon believes church should be a place where everyone can belong, grow, and discover God’s purpose for their lives.
With decades of ministry experience spanning youth ministry, pastoral leadership, church planting, and evangelism, Pastor Brandon has dedicated his life to serving others and sharing the hope of Christ. His journey has taken him from New Jersey and Georgia to Texas, where he continues to invest in people and build strong, life-giving churches. Kelly has spent over 24 years in education, helping students discover what they’re capable of, and she brings that same passion for people to the church.
Since 2017, he has led The WORD through seasons of growth. In addition to serving The WORD, he also serves as the Texas State Evangelism Director, helping equip churches and leaders across the state to reach their communities.
Outside the church, Brandon and Kelly are proud parents of two sons who are now off to college. They’re Texas Tech fans, lifelong lovers of the stage, and devoted dog people.
Above all, Pastors Brandon and Kelly love God, love people, and believe the best is yet to come. Whether they’re preaching on Sunday, encouraging leaders, or spending time with family, their mission remains the same: helping people take their next step with Jesus.

Our Pillars & Core Values
The WORD is an acrony, each letter is a pillar of our church, and each pillar is lived out through a core value.
Worship
We are never more like Jesus than when we give.
Giving is more than an offering. It’s worship that reflects the character of Christ.
John 3:16Outreach
We are never more like Jesus than when we step out in faith.
Across the street or across the world, we grow as disciples and go as ambassadors.
Matthew 28:19–20Relationship
We are never more like Jesus than when we love others.
Real community is essential to spiritual growth, and it happens in Life Groups.
John 13:34–35Discipleship
We are never more like Jesus than when we forgive.
Discipleship is living out God’s Word with grace and humility, and less judgment.
Matthew 6:14–15Our story
How The WORD Began
What began in living rooms in 1950 is now a multi-campus church family. The locations and the name have changed. The purpose has stayed the same.
- 1950
White Settlement Church of God
Several families in White Settlement, Texas, began gathering in homes to pray, worship, and seek God’s direction. On October 28, 1950, ten charter members officially established the church.

Arlington Heights Church of God
By 1970 the congregation had relocated from White Settlement to Arlington Heights, where it gathered as Arlington Heights Church of God.
- 1985
Lakeside Church of God
The church settled in its current home in Lakeside as Lakeside Church of God, and kept serving families and sharing the message of Christ.
- 2017
A New Season
Pastor Brandon Bohannon became Lead Pastor and helped lead the church into a new season of vision and growth.
- 2018
Becoming The WORD
Lakeside Church of God took on a renewed identity as The WORD.

What we believe
Our Declaration of Faith
The Church of God believes the whole Bible to be completely and equally inspired and that it is the written Word of God and has adopted the following Declaration of Faith as its standard and official expression of its doctrine.
- In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
- In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
- That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
- That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
- That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
- In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
- Holiness to be God's standard of living for His people.
- In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
- In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
- In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
- Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
- In the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet.
- In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
- In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
